Marathon Club!

Last year in Kindergarten Crew got into the Fall Marathon Club at school where they record the amount of laps they run at recess and have a certain amount of time to collect enough laps to get to 25 miles.  Because Kindergarten doesn't meet everyday it was nearly impossible for him to reach the goal.  This year as a first grader he was determined to earn "feet" for his necklace and make it to the High School to run the final 1.2 miles under the lights.
Well he did it, on the very last day at recess he had to run 8 laps to make his goal and he did it!  We were so proud of him not only because he ran the laps, but it was his own motivation and choice to do it, we did not tell him he had too, it was completely up to him.  He gave up some of his other favorite recess choices some days like football, basketball, and the ever so competitive wall ball to do this.
His card, ready to be check off for the final 5 laps!  I think he is excited!?
We all went to support him, and his brothers were ready to join him too!  We got there early and Brodes and Kys made some laps too.
I was super impressed that they kept running and I was waiting for them stop mid way around the track and start crying expecting me to come get them...ah that wasn't going to happen!
Kys suprised us all!  He ran 4 laps, yes that equals a mile!  He had a short break to give us high fives between the laps and rest up for a second, but I could not believe it.  For a kid the barely eats, at just 3 years old he busted out a mile, and it wasn't some slow jog either.
Chris made him wait for Crew so he could RUN the final lap with his brother, and Kys did!  Way to go!  Brodes made a few laps, but just like any normal kid, wanted to then cheer on his brother and all the other kids running by.
This was actually a pretty big event, because all 3 elementary schools were there grades K-5.  We later found out that Crew was only one of 7 kids total in 1st grade at Vossbeck to complete the full mararthon!
Woohoo! Way to go!  He deifnitley inspired his brothers and Brodes thinks he will be doing this next year too!
His necklace with all his small feet, and after the final laps he earned his BIG FOOT, he is so proud of this necklace!
